The guy goes into the backyard and sees a black mutt just sitting there. It seems likely that their prayers are prayers of praise and petitions for guidance rather than prayers for release. Every morning and every evening the head of a Jewish household would pray, giving thanks that God had not created him a Gentile, a woman or a slave. It hardly seems coincidental that the first three conversions which take place at Philippi, come from those three despised categories.
